Day 24 with Effy

When Death Comes

When death comes
like the hungry bear in autumn;

when death comes and takes all the bright coins from his purse
to buy me, and snaps the purse shut;

when death comes
like the measle-pox

when death comes
like an iceberg between the shoulder blades,

I want to step through the door full of curiosity, wondering:
what is it going to be like, that cottage of darkness?

And therefore I look upon everything
as a brotherhood and a sisterhood,
and I look upon time as no more than an idea,
and I consider eternity as another possibility,

and I think of each life as a flower, as common
as a field daisy, and as singular,

and each name a comfortable music in the mouth,
tending, as all music does, toward silence,

and each body a lion of courage, and something
precious to the earth.

When it's over, I want to say all my life
I was a bride married to amazement.
I was the bridegroom, taking the world into my arms.

When it's over, I don't want to wonder
if I have made of my life something particular, and real.

I don't want to find myself sighing and frightened,
or full of argument.

I don't want to end up simply having visited this world.

Day 23 with Effy

I am soooooo sorry, I forgot all about the blog yesterday. My husband returned from a 23 day trip and I wanted to get all my weekly chores done before he got home and I did. I was exhausted and I fell asleep and next thing I knew he was kissing me Hello.  I was so happy to see him the day got away from me, we had so much catching up to do.  I never heard my reminder alarm.

So I guess I owe all of you an extra great excerpt today.

It was easy to do something special.

I spent a day doing GelliPlate papers and some other fun papers using some of Seth Apter's products

I inherited lot of stuff from my grandmother-in-law. Which is ironic because she is the one who started me into stamping. And I think stamping, for a lot of us, was the basis of where we began into the art world. I still stamp a lot and use it in a lot of my projects. Obviously I went from there (stamping) on to a lot of other things. Mixed media jumped out at me next. So for a lot of these projects I need fun papers. Actually that was not where I was headed when I started this paragraph.

My GIL gave me all her stuff when she could no longer use it. She had tons of paper and a lot of the paper was pre-printed. Most of which I would never use so this is what I do most of my Gelli papers on. I use mostly the backs but some times the fronts.

Not all Gelli papers come out good, some are really really terrible but even those can sometimes be salvaged by tearing up or working on top of.

So here are a few of my Gelli papers and tomorrow I will show you and explain how I made the ones I made withe Seth's products.

See not all are lovely but I think I'll be able to make then work?

So how many of you have tried your hand at Gelli Printing?

Do you like it. I really like making papers, you can use up old paint, paper you don't like and it kind of gets your mind off all of your troubles. Someone once told me that if your Muse has disappeared make paper it'll help her find her way home.

Simple things keep me holding on.

Day 21 with Effy

My friend Heidi made me a small art case of various things: acrylic paints, scissors, some different nice markers that are black with different size tips,  ephemera items and a nice small  black ink pad and a few other things. I added a few paint brushes she said this was supposed to be for my Small Studio. This would be upstairs so that if I didn't feel like going down the the Fish Bowl, or I had a day I didnt wear my prothesis and I felt like getting Makey (doing art) I would have a few things upstairs. I also bought another small case to add a few extra things because I never have enough ephemera or markers or watercolor stuff.

I'm starting to work on that card from the other day

I told you that it was going to show up in some in some of  my work.

So I start a little collage with it and I'll show you what I've got so far. This doesn't mean it's how it's going to stay but we'll see.

So take a look and let me know what you think and I'll work from there.

That's all I've got for today.

"Do not judge anything you have made,                                                                                                     Your hands have immense power,                                                                                                         you just have to train them; once you start,                                                                                             you will see progress if you stay with it.                                                                                             This is not a race.. this is your life."

Day 20 with Effy

Today is going to be brief.

Nothing seemed to go my way today.

I got sidetracked every which way it could be. I DID get to the post and sent my envies out.

Here's a picture of my envelope my swap went in.

We also had to include a SASE.

Sorry a really crappyπŸ’© photo. See the flap? It says RESTART MAIL ART.

If you noticed the little piece of paper on the mermaid envy this is what is says:

I try to remember to put these in every swap. I am not sure if anyone is helping it move on but I hope so.

That's  all I have for today.

EVERYTHING IS GOING TO WORK OUT

Day 19 with Effy

Hello and happy Sunday!

It is lovely at my house, nice and sunny beautiful blue sky with a few puffy clouds and every so often a nice little breeze. It's spectacular!!

I'm sitting in my great room at the table working. Looking out over my yard and my pumpkins patch, that I hope to sell pumpkins during next month.

At the pond there were geese this morning and they're gone thank goodness! Because they were up squawking all night. Not sure why, something was disturbing them.

There's3 three little houses I made with my local group.

We've been together for over 10 years. We have a meeting at least once a month and whoever comes, comes and if you can't, oh well, we miss you πŸ˜”

Some times we have a project, some times every body does their own thing. We always have show-and-tell and a lot of times we bring something to share and then where we usually meet we have a share table. Once I get The Fish Bowl cleaned up and organized, I hope they'll come and join me under the sea.

One of the girls had the idea of making these fun little houses. She got the patterns. We cut those out of lightweight cardboard after tracing from the patterns. Then you finish them how ever you wanted. You could paint or collage or draw the rest then color them in, etc .

Obviously I choose to collage mine. I really enjoyed this project and the part that really makes me feel warm and fuzzy I guess, is on the one house well on all the houses I put an address, but on the one house down at the bottom it says 3252, that was the address of my home when I was a child and this is written in my dad's handwriting so it just makes me feel 😊 happy.

Originally I had something else I was going to do, then I read this and I got permission to share it.

I was very compelled to share this message.

Day 17 with Effy

So far 3 followers, where are all of the rest you? I get comments that you like my blog so please join the band wagon.

It appears I have something  wrong to in the follow button area. It looks like you need to go to the blogsite and sign up there. It doesn't seem to show up when I post. I'll  try and figure this out and I remember bring a friend!!πŸ‘«πŸ‘¬πŸ‘

Well anyway I was trying to figure out what I was going to do for the blog today and I thought I would show all about Poppets. Then my friend called and asked me if I wanted to go to this really great Paper Store in Cleveland. Of course I said yes because wow like I need more paper. NOT!! This is a great store, they have paper by the pound and they have envelopes in huge batches and large sheets of paper and handmade paper in large sheet. All at great prices.

I really needed some envelopes because I used what was left of my A2's for the envie swap.

So I said "Yeah sure it'll be fun and I can get what I need".

I'm back. Ouch I should have stayed home.

Well I did get envies and cards to go with them. And large sheets of paper for water colouring and 8x11 sheets of paper for water coloring. And I found these really nice cards with a building on it. I'll show you its too hard to describe.

Then on the way out I 'swam' 🐑 by the paper rack with Graphics 45 and Stamperia papers and ugh, some of them are so beautiful.

Darnit couldn't stay away. I was picking through the big sheets and checking the back side to make sure the back was really cool and then...

I saw that 8 by 8 packs (which is the size I prefer) Oh Dear, SUCKER! they dragged me in kicking and 😱 screamin', and by the time I picked out those and put the 12 by 12 back (except for a few that they didn't have in the eight by eight) I was done in, over the top, blew my budget.

Now I'm home and I'm happy with what I bought and also I found a couple of odd ball items to go with my paper and envies.

I'm happy but I'm poorer but I guess that's how it goes in our business, right, artists are always poor.

Isn't this beautiful?

Watch for future projects that I use these cards.
